June 22 I really know how it feels to be stressed out, stressed out..So I haven't been on here for a while, mostly because I've been too busy spinning out of control. I've spent the last few months going out too much and freaking out whilst finishing off my degree, in which I gained a 2.1, so imagine what I could've done if I'd stayed in more.
Recently I've taken a time out, because things got tough and I couldn't keep going. The thought of going to any more parties was too much and so I took my leave to the country side to watch the river go by and think about the changes I need to make in my life, and learn who I am again. Without the make up, the clothes, the friends, the parties, and the drinks, and mostly to learn how to be happy in my own company.
So much of the time we spend our lives chasing things and occupying our minds with meaningless trivia, such as who to date, who you are dating, who you will date next, who's going to be at the pub, who's going to be at the party, who phoned you last night, why they phoned you, how to lose 12 lbs in a week, how you are going to fit in a pedicure, manicure and haircut in on a friday lunch break, when you're going to ebay all those clothes you don't need, when you are going to phone your aging auntie back and how you're going to get your hands on the most beautiful pair of Laboutins for £400 when you haven't got a penny...and do you know what? It's mind numbing...none of this stuff is important and doesn't warrant the amount of stress it causes.
And another thing...I haven't drank for 4 days now, and it's amazing, as a wise man once said
"Alcohol is the cause of, and the solution to all of life's problems."
- Homer J. Simpson February 14 Reminisce and the gift of Friendship.I chose to look back on blogs from the last two years that I wrote at this time of year. (published below) What I find very interesting and relieving is that neither of the where about Valentine's Day, men or relationships. This is the first Valentine's Day I have spent single for 5 years, and I got through it. I find it interesting that when I was in a relationship on Valentine's Day I didn't think about men, relationships and all the rest of it, but now I am single its seems to hold more presidence in my mind. This evening I enjoyed a laughter packed meal with friends. We ate too much, talked about really funny things and all around us were tiresome awkward couples. Looking like they were trying to have fun.
We were the only people in the restaurant laughing our heads off and do you know what - that is the way it should be. I'm glad that I didn't obsess about Valentine's day in the past and even though I worried a bit this year, and didn't get any cards I had a really lovely time celebrating the friendships I have.
Talking about Do you want to be Branded
Quote Do you want to be Branded Talking about What is going on??????
Quote What is going on?????? February 13 Phoo what!!?!!!British comedy appears to be getting more and more fantastical. Has anyone seen Phoo action? What the hell is it about, its even more random than the Mighty Boosh! I mean Boosh is funny, but Phoo just seems absolutely weird and random and just not that funny. I swear it all started getting weird from the point when Jez ate Mummy the dog on Peep Show. Lord help British comedies, because it just seems to be getting out of hand!
December 21 Wombastic! So an eventful morning of celeb news was had today...
As I rushed around trying to get ready this morning I was astonished by the news via my flat mate that little miss Jamie-Lynn Spears and her royal chavness Lily Allen are both in the family way. Now this presents two problems; this first being that Jamie-Lynn is just 16 years old which makes her a minor in the U.S and her partner is 3 years her senior, which means...he could go to jail for having intercourse with a minor. The second problem that presents itself is the fact that Lily Allen is a cocaine user, now do we really want to see the whole Kate Moss saga unravelling itself again?
It seems that celebrities today are infact just emulating the general public in the ways of teenage motherhood and parents who will probably have social services knocking on their door. Bring back the days of Hollywood studios controlling their star's lives I say! Roll models indeed!
![]() November 26 Ethnic EthicsBrick Lane presents us with an insight into the sheltered lives of women that are taken away from the friends, family and everything they know to service husbands who they do not know or love, as if they were slaves in a country they don't understand. Feeling the repulsion and disgust of the woman when she lies there motionless whilst her fat, old husband shags her, director Sarah Gavron manages to make the viewer feel uncomfortable and repugnant at the situation. During this film you feel yourself willing her to commit adultery with the young, hansom Karim.
It’s odd that you find yourself urging something unethical to happen that in real life you wouldn’t dream of supporting. Adultery being something I’ve always been strongly against is never something I thought I would find myself agreeing with, however, somehow Gavron seems to make it ok. I suppose though it is only a film, but what’s to say that showing adultery as a positive thing isn’t as bad as showing violence in a positive way. They are both issues that people don’t agree with, yet a film is more likely to get a slating for teaching violence than for teaching adultery. November 18 Vivacious and Asian
Asian fashion is taking a strong hold in London. The Victoria & Albert museum is currently exhibiting central Asian Ikats from countries such as Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. The wide cut Ikats display bold prints that stand out in the low lit room amongst the traditional Victorian gowns. Ikats were traditionally used as a sign of social status and sometimes hung as decoration in the home and made using a style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. As you turn the corner after the Ikats you are confronted by another Asian surprise. A few choice pieces from Indian designer Ashish. The bold use of sequins create another nice injection of colour into the dull showroom.
With tricky relationships brewing from political problems in central Asia it is good to see the V & A making a conscious effort to include some cultural exhibitions from the unknown. The Natural Art of SeductionTaken a back whilst on a trip to Oxford Street's Borders to find various books I needed for my dissertation, I staggered up the paused escalator with the little energy I had left after a days trawling around galleries - silence hit me as I reached the fifth floor. Wondering what was going on, as I was confronted with hoards of men gathering around a rather queer looking, long haired man in a suit. I listened intently to hear what he was talking about. "You need to make eye contact with women, not stare at them scarily, but be natural, blink a little, but you will hold her attention." It turns out this talk being given was by Author of The Natural Art of Seduction, Richard La Ruina.
What laid curiosity with me is that there were, what you would normally consider good looking guys who you would never think would need advice on how to get a girl. La Ruina even used a girl as a prop to show how to get her attention. I questioned the need to really give a demonstration on how pick up a girl in a bar. I suppose it was refreshing to see that even men get insecure about ending up alone. October 10 BricaBrac in Brick LaneToday I travelled to the ever trendy Brick Lane, I had forgotten the charm and artistic nature of this area but it all soon came flooding back with the abundance of vintage shops and street art, but most of all the people.
Being one of the most fashionably eclectic locations in London its refreshing yet nostalgic when you see people in vintage shops wearing original 80's blue fade, high wasted jeans, with a bright red cardi that they probably picked up in a charity shop somewhere. These people would stand out anywhere else as strange and unconventional, yet in East London it just works. The excitement that comes across peoples faces when they walk into shops such as Absolute Vintage or Rockit when they find a scuffed old leather bag from 1976 - and possibly from marks and sparks or BHS is unfathmnable to some, yet it is a true sign of appreciation for all things garments and accessories, and a million miles away from everything shiny and new on the high street. |
